On July 15, 2021, the Second National Consultation on People-Centered Justice, organized by the USAID New Justice Program and the Pathfinders for Peaceful, Just and Inclusive Society took place.
The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Justice of Ukraine on European Integration Valeria Kolomiyets, Deputy Minister of Justice of Ukraine Oleksandr Banchuk, Judge of the Supreme Court, Member of the Working Group on Developing a Roadmap Addressing the People-Centered Justice Application in Gender-Based and Domestic Violence Cases Nadia Stefaniv, Anti-Corruption Lead Specialist, USAID/Ukraine Office of Democracy and Governance Jay Totte, Program Lead on Justice for All, Pathfinders for Peaceful, Just and Inclusive Societies at Centre for International Cooperation, New York University, Maaike de Langen and other leading Ukrainian and international experts on human rights. The Secretariat of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine was represented by Head of the Legal Department Natalia Kidina, and Deputy Head of the International Cooperation Division Iuliia Tkachenko.
The participants of the event discussed the concept of people-centered justice and ways to implement it by all stakeholders in order to ensure everyone's access to the services of the judiciary system and justice. In particular, special attention was paid to the practical implementation of the people-centered approach in Ukraine. The parties were also acquainted with the experience of applying a people-centered approach in the areas of prevention/protection from gender-based and domestic violence, informal employment in Ukraine, in the context of which a Roadmap on the Application of a People-Centered Approach in Improving the Access to Justice for Gender-Based and Domestic Violence Survivors with respect to the issuance of restrictive orders was presented.
The meeting ended with an important discussion on areas in which people-centered approach to access to justice and judiciary services can be applied in Ukraine.
